Career Workshop

Since 2009, under the leadership of Richard Johnson-Sheehan, we have been running a successful Career Workshop at the ATTW Conference. Last year, about 25 professors and 30 graduate students participated. So, we’re going to do it again. The workshop will be at the ATTW Conference on Wednesday, March 19, before the CCCC.

Faculty Members

We are looking for faculty members who would be willing to talk one-on-one with graduate students. It’s kind of like “speed dating” in which each conversation lasts about 5 minutes. The graduate students bring their CVs and a business card. As the faculty member, you would only need to talk about your university and your program. So, there’s almost no preparation. We've always had lots of fun last year, and we learned about other programs through their graduate students.

To volunteer or ask questions: email Lisa Meloncon,, with your name and affiliation.

Graduate Students

At the workshop, which is an hour and a half long, you will receive a booklet that offers tips and strategies for finding academic job in Technical and Professional Writing, Rhetoric, and Composition. Then, we use a "speed-dating" format to let you talk to as many faculty members as possible. This format is a fun and informative way to meet professors from other universities, discuss your career goals, and learn about other universities'  programs. We ask you to bring copies of a brief CV that you can leave with them.
